The Art Renewal Center takes great pride in announcing the winners of the 2003 Scholarship Competition. It was indeed a very competitive year as the number of applicants has more than tripled from the previous year. This is due to the fact that our approved atelier and school listing has also tripled in size. Our esteemed judges have expressed that their task was a difficult one due to the exceptional quality of the work submitted. The panel of judges for 2003 consisted of Allan Banks, Richard Whitney, and ARC's Chairman Fred Ross.
Our First Place winner with an honorarium of $4,000 goes to Amelia Rowcroft for her very fine work in sculpture. Amelia will continue in her second year at the Florence Academy. Second Place with $2,500 goes to Scott Waddell. Scott has just received his BFA from Florida State University and is now entering his first year at the Florence Academy. Third Place with $2,000 has been awarded to Joshua Fishbein to continue his studies. Joshua has been studying with Robert Armetta at the Long Island Academy of Fine Art in New York, USA. Farigh Ghaderi is a graduate of the Florence Academy and has been awarded Fourth Place with $1,500 to continue his studies in the art of portraiture within the institution. In a tie for Fifth Place with $600 each are Rebecca Gray and Jeremy Davis. Rebecca will continue her studies with Juliette Aristides at the Seattle Academy of Fine Arts in Washington, USA. Jeremy will be entering his junior year at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Connecticut, USA.
On behalf of our Chairman, Fred Ross and everyone here at the Art Renewal Center a well-deserved congratulations is extended to all of our scholarship recipients. We thank these young talented artists and the fine institutions in which they study for their dedication and upholding of artistic traditions and values sought by the ARC, and we wish them continued success on their artistic journey.
