Letter to ARC

[ We all are often astonished by the inane, banal or absurd items that supposedly intelligent people running museums have been conned or snookered into accepting as art. Occasionally someone takes the time to describe one or another of these items, as for example the following letter. - Ed ]

"IT MAKES YOU THINK ABOUT....THE CLAUSTROPHOBIA OF RELATIONSHIPS, WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE BOUND TO SOMEONE ELSE."

And so begins an article on the latest at the Tate Britain. A something or other called Cornelia Parker has taken Rodin's 'The Kiss' and wrapped it with a mile-long spool of string. The piece is now called 'The Distance: A Kiss With Added String'. Clever, huh? Rodin has never been one of my favorite sculptors, but I have to admit that a couple can't get much closer, physically or emotionally, than in the 'Kiss'.

It says Parker spent almost a week wrapping the 'Kiss". The upside is that that was a week she couldn't spend 'creating' something else. The spokesman for the Tate felt it necessary to mention that the string will be removed when the exhibit closes.

I can't bring myself to include a JPG [digital image] of the thing.
