Another View: Landscapes by Women Artists

Published on April 18, 2024

This exhibition will examine women artists’ place in the history of British landscape art, a story traditionally dominated by male artists. Starting with early depictions by female amateur artists, the exhibition will move through the 19th and 20th centuries, presenting the changing ways women have looked at the outside world, and how social, economic, cultural and environmental developments have affected that.

The artworks range from oil paintings to prints and drawings, and will be drawn from National Museums Liverpool’s collection alongside works from other institutions. They will tell a story of women artists' growing ambition and development of technique as they get more of a foothold in the art world. Some of these artists will be relatively unknown, while others are recognized as leaders and innovators of their time. 'Another View' will seek to present for the first time an overarching narrative drawing these artists together.

Another View is running from 4/20-8/18/2024 at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight Village, Wirral CH62 5EQ, UK.

Caspar David Friedrich Infinite Landscapes

Published on April 12, 2024

To mark the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840), the Alte Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, in cooperation with the Kupferstichkabinett, will for the very first time present a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the oeuvre of the most prominent painter of the German Romantic movement. Roughly 60 paintings and 50 drawings from Germany and abroad will be on display, including a number of world-famous, iconic works of art.

An exhibition of this kind is long overdue in Berlin, if only by virtue of the fact that the numerous acquisitions and public exhibitions that occurred in the Prussian capital played a considerable part in fostering the artist's initial renown during his own lifetime, and because the Nationalgalerie houses one of the world’s largest collections of Friedrich’s paintings.

The exhibition runs from 4/19- 8/4/24 at the Alte Nationalgalerie, Bodestraße, Berlin 10178, Germany.
