ARC is pleased to welcome AdA (Art d'Apprendre) as new ARC Approved Atelier®!

AdA offers workshops and a full-time three year skill based training art program.

For AdA founder Joke Frima, it takes skill-based training to create a realistic depiction of nature. It is her mission to disprove the myth that art cannot be learned and that one only needs great talent or aptitude to become an excellent painter. Art can and needs to be learned.

This special installation will feature five Victorian masterpieces from the collection of the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico. The exceptional loans include the iconic Flaming June by Frederic Leighton, John Everett Millais’s The Escape of a Heretic, 1559, and Edward Burne-Jones’s Small Briar Rose series (The Prince Enters the Wood, The King and His Court, and The Sleeping Beauty, all painted 1871–73).

The paintings will be displayed in the galleries for 19th- and early-20th-century European paintings and sculpture, presented in dialogue with other works by artists at The Met. Most notably, the presentation will bring together Leighton’s Flaming June with Lachrymae (1894–95, The Met), two of his last monumental oil paintings. Although the two works have been in several exhibitions together, this is the first time that they will be displayed side by side.

Since the Museo de Arte de Ponce has been closed for repair following devastating earthquakes in 2020, this partnership allows the public to continue viewing some of their most important artworks while also showcasing meaningful connections with The Met's collection.

The works will be at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Avenue, NY, NY 10028 until February 2023.

ARC is pleased to welcome San Francisco High School of the Arts - HSArts Visual Arts Program as a new ARC Approved® atelier!

The goal of the HSArts Visual Arts Program is to provide students with professional-level training. The program is unique in that it focuses on the skills essential for professional accomplishment in any visual arts-related field, including digital composition, concept art, film-making, product design, and architecture. Every HSArts graduate wishing to pursue a career in art has been accepted by one or more top-ranking fine-arts universities.

The fundamental courses for visual arts include chiaroscuro (grisaille), painting (oil painting/acrylic), and sketch (pen art/mixed media). Students also participate in plein air drawing for painting from life once a week.

England under the volatile Tudor dynasty was a thriving home for the arts. An international community of artists and merchants, many of them religious refugees, navigated the high-stakes demands of royal patrons, including England’s first two reigning queens. Against the backdrop of shifting political relationships with mainland Europe, Tudor artistic patronage legitimized, promoted, and stabilized a series of tumultuous reigns, from Henry VII’s seizure of the throne in 1485 to the death of his granddaughter Elizabeth I in 1603. The Tudor courts were truly cosmopolitan, boasting the work of Florentine sculptors, German painters, Flemish weavers, and Europe’s best armorers, goldsmiths, and printers, while also contributing to the emergence of a distinctly English style. This exhibition will trace the transformation of the arts in Tudor England through more than 100 objects—including iconic portraits, spectacular tapestries, manuscripts, sculpture, and armor—from both The Met collection and international lenders.

Arts and Crafts pottery maker William De Morgan and Pre-Raphaelite painter Evelyn De Morgan lived in harmony as married artists in Victorian England. A power couple, they encouraged one another’s creative pursuits and engaged in the social issues of their day. William De Morgan created brilliantly colored tiles, pots, and plates with distinctive, shimmering lustre-ware surfaces. Evelyn De Morgan took inspiration from Botticelli to create richly symbolic paintings of modern subjects. This visually stunning exhibition makes its American debut at the Delaware Art Museum.

A major international event, this exhibition honors the exceptional, innovative and inspiring artist, Rosa Bonheur on the bicentenary of her birth. She was known as an icon of the emancipation of women and especially women artists. Bonheur was fascinated with animals and sought through her work to express their vitality and their "soul".

This exhibition allows the public to rediscover the power and richness of her work, by bringing together approximately 200 works (paintings, graphic arts, sculptures, photographs) from public and private collections in Europe and the United States.

With over one hundred of the most acclaimed and iconic pieces in American art on display, the exhibition takes viewers on a journey across time, medium, and identity.

Organized by theme—portraiture, history painting, still life, genre scenes, and landscape—and not chronology, the exhibition affords the opportunity to enjoy familiar works in a new light and find new favorites.

Each of the featured artists’ careers were shaped by PAFA, whether through their education or the exhibition and display of their work. Making American Artists critically re-examines PAFA’s legacy while shedding light on its continuing role in shaping American art of the twenty-first century.

ARC is pleased to welcome Rogue Classical Atelier as a new ARC Approved® Atelier!

Rogue Classical Atelier was established in 2007 and is a bustling educational atelier with two locations in the Southern Oregon Rogue Valley. The school offers a progressive program of study in the classical atelier method, as well as community classes.

The mission of the school is to encourage artists through the equipping of a readily adaptable, highly skilled artistic “tool belt” which gives flight to inspiration and sets it free.

Only about 35 paintings by Johannes Vermeer are known today. The National Gallery owns four works by or attributed to this beloved 17th-century Dutch artist: Woman Holding a Balance, A Lady Writing, Girl with the Red Hat, and Girl with a Flute.

For decades, conservators, scientists, and curators at the National Gallery have conducted research into this quartet of paintings as well as two enigmatic works that are now considered to be 20th-century forgeries. Vermeer’s Secrets draws on 50 years of imaging technology and microscopic examination to illuminate—and sometimes revolutionize—our understanding of how Vermeer achieved the compelling effects of his paintings’ light-filled moments of quiet solitude.

In this behind-the-scenes glimpse, the National gallery of Art reveals their findings about these paintings and the artist who made them.

The eminent landscape painter Joseph Rebell was born in Vienna in 1787 and worked from 1813 in Naples and Rome. His paintings were held in high esteem among art-interested audiences across Europe, including those in aristocratic and royal circles. This comprehensive show and first solo exhbition of Rebell's work at the Belvedere presents numerous works from public and private collections in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, which can now be compared with one another for the first time.

Celebrated as the leading society portraitist of his era, John Singer Sargent influenced a generation of American painters. His personal captivation with Spain resulted in a remarkable body of work that documents his extensive travels from the north to the south and to the island of Majorca. Over three decades Sargent responded to the country’s rich culture by producing landscapes and marine scenes, pictures of everyday life, and architectural studies, as well as sympathetic portrayals of the locals he encountered.

For the first time, Sargent and Spain presents approximately 120 dazzling oils, watercolors, and drawings, many of which are rarely exhibited. Also featured from the artist’s travels are some 28 never-before published photographs, several almost certainly taken by Sargent himself.

Laguna College of Art + Design’s BFA program in Drawing + Painting is proud to present Parallel Disasters, an exhibition of paintings.

Tornados engulfing the skies above familiar suburban landscapes, specters of the Confederacy hovering over shells of spacious single family homes; such fantastic and haunting scenes characterize Parallel Disasters, a two-artist exhibition of paintings by John Brosio and Perin Mahler, both alumni of LCAD. Rooted in crisis and speculation, both personal and social, Brosio and Mahler’s paintings peer into unchartered territories rife with new systems of logic, possibility, and risk.

Van Gogh in America celebrates the DIA’s status as the first public museum in the United States to purchase a painting by Vincent van Gogh, his Self-Portrait (1887). On the 100th anniversary of its acquisition, experience around 70 authentic Van Gogh works from around the world and discover the fascinating story of America’s introduction to this iconic artist, in an exhibition only at the DIA.

A full-length, illustrated catalogue with essays by the exhibition curator and Van Gogh scholars will accompany the exhibition. The Detroit Institute of Arts is the exclusive venue for this exhibition.
