Rediscovering George Elgar Hicks

February 24, 2015

Kara Lysandra Ross, ARC Chief Operating Officer, has written “Rediscovering Victorian Painter George Elgar Hicks”, a new article published in The Epoch Times.

A Cloud With a Silver Lining
by George Elgar Hicks
"In the 1870s with the decline of interest in bustling contemporary genre paintings illustrating scenes of Victorian life, Hicks moved on to portraiture commissions and a different type of genre painting, many of which are beautifully esthetic psychological studies of individuals or small groups. Although he has been most noted for his historic crowd scenes, it is most likely his later scenes of beauty and childhood that will become increasingly appreciated, as these are the ones that more closely resemble the works of his most sought after contemporaries."

New Letter to ARC

February 17, 2015

"I've studied Art History at university and I've always felt fascinated by Humanist or Traditional Art. For this reason I was very surprised when, in 19th Century Art classes, my teacher never said a word about geniuses like Bouguereau or Gérôme. Well, the only thing he said once was that they were labeled as "Pompier" and that they didn't add anything important nor interesting to Western Art History..."

ARC is pleased to welcome Anna Wypych as an ARC Living Master™.

Obvious true, there is one girl not two
by Anna Wypych

Anna Wypych's works of art transcend the commonplace to enter the realm of the otherworldly. The starting point of her work and also the main theme, is always mankind, but Anna goes beyond physicality, as if she wants more to capture the spirit than the body. She develops images that evoke moods, dreams, and feelings inspired by real life, and which create a remarkably compelling narrative.
