ARC Living Master™ Han-Wu Shen at Sotheby's
March 28, 2013
![]() | Sotheby's Hong Kong will be featuring four paintings by ARC Living Master™ Han-Wu Shen at their 20th Century Chinese Art April 6th auction. They have included a large write up on the artist, his relationship to ARC Chairman Frederick Ross and the Art Renewal Center. Shen has had a full and successful career in China before coming to the United States, and his work bears strong resemblance to the famous work of Chinese artist Wang Yidong in subject, color pallet, composition and technical execution. Yidong, who is five year’s younger then Shen, regularly has his paintings bring over $1,000,000 US dollars for a single work at auction. It seems that it is only due to lack of knowledge of Shen’s work that his pieces are not bringing similar prices. |

Paul DeLorenzo (1947-2013)
March 26, 2013
Artist Paul DeLorenzo passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his home in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1947. He graduated from preparatory school in Massachusetts and then entered art school in Boston. Like other talented students at the time, he was dissatisfied with the modernist indoctrination which had replaced the teaching of drawing and painting in these institutions. Desperate for knowledge, he left art school to copy old masters at the museums in Boston in an attempt to teach himself. While copying a painting by Velásquez in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, he met R. H. Ives Gammell. The following day Gammell invited him to join his studio school. DeLorenzo subsequently continued his studies in Minneapolis with Richard Lack, the first full-time student in Atelier Lack's inaugural group. | |

Letter about ARC Philosophy and Chairman's Response
March 15, 2013
We have added two new letters to the ARChives section of the website pertaining to photography and whether or not it can hold up to painting or sculpture as an art form. "Congratulations on your website. I have just discovered the ARC and read through the philosophy and Q & A section on philosophy. At last someone who agrees with me that much of the modern art is junk! Thank you for assuring me that I'm not crazy. I am an aspiring artist and have strong opinions. Even at that, I found only one minor point with which I would disagree." To read the full letter and Fred Ross's response, click here. |

New Allied Organization: MEAM
March 13, 2013
The European Museum of Modern Art – MEAM, Barcelona, Spain exhibits some of the finest Contemporary Figurative Art. It is owned by The Foundation of Arts and Artists and the purpose is to promote and diffuse figurative art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Foundation of Arts and Artists, organizes each year the Figurativas Painting and Sculpture Awards, and with the website Figurativas en Red (www.figurativas.org) opens a window with the artworks of the contemporary figurative artists. The MEAM is different from other contemporary art museums because it houses living artists who created figurative art. These artworks are hardly seen in other museums, to whom the word contemporary is identified by experiment and abstraction. | ![]() by Arantzazu Martinez |

Gustave Jean Jacquet by Kara Lysandra Ross
March 1, 2013
![]() | ARC Director of Operations, Kara Lysandra Ross, has just had her most recent article Gustave Jean Jacquet: Validating his Rightful Place in Art History published in the Epoch Times. "Gustave Jean Jacquet (1846–1909), is known among scholars as one of William Bouguereau’s top students. Although Jacquet’s subject matter was not of peasant girls or mythological scenes like Bouguereau himself or many of his other students, Jacquet quickly gained fame and notoriety for his technical virtuoso, his paintings of women, both strong and delicate, as well as historical genre scenes of women and soldiers in 16th, 17th, and 18th century costume."
