Mim's Creek by Neal Hughes

This painting was completed during the En Plein Air Texas Competition.  It was done in one sitting on the ranch where I was staying, and I was inspired by the contrast of the foreground foliage which was a bright yellowish color against the more drab colors in the background.  The very dry climate in Southwest Texas can be a challenge when attempting to produce colorful landscapes but I felt that this piece both captured the essence of the area and had an interesting play of color that made it stand out among the other paintings completed that week.
