Third Place ($500 Cash Award) / Plein Air Painting
This is painted in the summer on the back deck of our stiudios, looking west, late in the day. The roses were clipped from a bush growing next to my studio. It was a tricky piece with a slight breeze keeping me worried that my set up would completly change. It hung on for me but memory played a part with the changing shapes and changing light. I found it very stimulating to combine the rich color of the roses with the more subdued landscape.
