Leading the Revival of Realism

Leading the revival of realism in the visual arts, the Art Renewal Center (ARC), a 501(c)(3), non-profit, educational foundation, hosts the largest online museum dedicated to representational art and includes works by the old masters, 19th century, and 21st Century Artists as well as articles, letters and other online resources. The ARC is the foremost and only vetting service for representational art schools ensuring that the teaching curricula and quality of teacher and student work meet our strict standards to become ARC Approved™. The ARC also runs the ARC Salon Competition, which is the largest and most prestigious competition in the world for realist artists painting, sculpting and drawing today with eleven categories and thousands of works competing, culminating in a traveling live exhibition of many of the winning works. The ARC works with other ARC Allied Organizations™, artist groups, museums, and publications to become a central news hub for the 21st Century Representational Art Movement. Read the ARC Philosophy written by ARC Chairman, Frederick C. Ross, to learn why ARC is so passionately dedicated to representational art.

Sunday in the Park with Asher Published on 29 September, 2022

The Durand-Hedden House presents "Sunday in the Park with Asher", a plein air painting event on Sunday October 2nd (rain day the following Sunday Oct. 9th).

Enjoy this special one-day community event as four landscape painters, including ARC Associate Living Master Gayle Madeira, gather at Durand-Hedden’s idyllic Grasmere Park for a day of painting in this unique natural setting. Watch the artists at work and learn about technique, choice of vantage point, composition, and palette. An exhibit of works by these artists will be displayed inside Durand-Hedden House, which also houses several paintings by Durand, former Maplewood resident and famed Hudson River School artist.

The artists will be painting on the grounds from 1-4pm and each will give a 20 minute demo at various points. Gayle Madeira's demo will be from 2-2:20pm. There will be an artist's wine & cheese reception from 4-5pm.

The Durand-Hedden House, Maplewood’s historic house museum, is at 523 Ridgewood Rd., Maplewood NJ.  Admission is free but donations are welcome.  Visit www.durandhedden.org for details.
